We went to our bank and discussed how inconvenient this was for our Canadian visitors. As a result they figured out on their end how to help us make this work. My Daughter Madelyn Muench had an assignment for world geography to build a land mark in London. She picked the London Tower Bridge. This is what it looked like finished. I would like to thank Jerry Edelman and Maryann Daly for the clay they supplied us with and also Pat and John Guyette for the many ideas they gave me to give to her. There was also a lengthy report due with this project and her dad and I are so proud of her for starting on this the day it was assigned. It took 3 weeks to finish.

followed by the PARK LUNCHEON ~~~

The Parade will set up at 10:30 AM on No Name Street. The Parade will
start at 11:00 AM. First performance will be at 1st Street and Main Street.
The second performance will be at 4th Street and Main Street.

The Present King & Queen, Jack Bailey and his lovely wife, Janie Lou will
pass through the Parade, followed by our new nominated King & Queen
for next year, Bruce & Ruth Burgan.

The Crowning of the King & Queen will be done in front of all the Lunch
Guests at approximately 12:30 PM.

Entertainment will be provided by Dave Lechewski with Karaoke Music.
The Party will be over by 1:30 PM.

Parrots 101 - We have had a cold spell & the parrots were indoors from
Monday through Wednesday. Sami as always was wonderful in helping to give them time outside on Wednesday & putting them back in for Wednesday night. Thursday we put them outside & cleaned all 20 cages. Claire was a great help as well. G.W. from Jerry's was a terrific bird letting me trim his toenails & clip his wings. Caesar from Jerry's was, as usual, a menace & extremely noisy. Miss Libby will be away on a cruise from January 7-17 so drop by & say hello to the parrots as there will be no show for 10 days.

This year's Mardi Gras is not being cancelled by the Park. The parade was always organized by the Park residents and the Park provided the picnic. In past years a committee was formed to work out all the parade details. A new committee will need to be formed and a chairperson or Co-Chairs will need to contact me to arrange for this event.

We intend to have the picnic on Fat Tuesday, February 21, 2012 even if a parade is not happening this year. Looking forward to meeting with the new committee as soon as possible.

SMOKEFREE 28ft 1994 Sunline T2770 Travel Trailer that sleeps up to 6 as we are looking at some newer models with the slide out. This has been a good trailer for us. So good in fact we are not considering anything other than another Sunline to replace it. It is 17 years old though so there are some good and some bad points.

The Good points:
Everything works: Hot water heater (Gas), Heater (Gas), Oven and cooktop (4 burner – Gonna miss that), Range hood, Microwave, Air conditioning (Ducted), Electrical, all lights, Brakes, Holding Tanks, all faucets, inside and outside showers, and toilet.
Huge bathroom! Full glass walled shower!
Easy to tow: Tow-able by most half-ton vehicles but NOT ALL! There are a lot of SUVs out there with low axle gear ratios and no transmission cooling. If you are unsure whether your vehicle can pull it, ask me by email. Trailer is about 4500lbs with a tongue weight of 720lbs dry with no options. Sunlines are slung low for less wind resistance.
13500 BTU AC will turn on with no trouble on a 3500watt cheap Chinese generator even with the electric fridge and lights on.

Some may consider it a good thing others not but the original fridge was replaced by the previous owner with a standard electric fridge. We replaced that one with another of the same less than a year ago. The good is it gets colder faster than a typical RV fridge. The bad is, it will not run off propane or battery.
There is a soft spot under the bathroom vanity. The previous owner was not nice enough to let us know that the shower leaked. A generous application of sillicon sealant solved the leak problem but the soft area is still there. It was on my list of projects but it could either be fixed or let stay as is. The vanity covers it and I could find no mold inspecting through the rear storage compartment.
The vent fan in the bathroom is broken.
I spot resealed all the roof caulking but one day it is really going to need to be re-caulked. I put silicon over all the cracking Dicor with care not to touch the roof membrane.
The awning is going to have to be replaced pretty soon or re-tensioned at the least.

creating a shell fashion for Shellabration

Could you see if your friends or your customers at Periwinkle Park could make a shell fashion for Shellabration in late Feb? In the past the people of Periwinkle Park have been great supporters of the Community House and this might be a fun project. This can be a store bought garment enhanced with shells and the winner does get $500. What fun for a group to do together. The Shellcrafters will help drill the holes in the shells so they can be easily attached to the fashion.

Just get a note or a sketch to us by mid-Dec so we can get many entries grouped together. Then the fun can start, culminating in the Fashion Show in late Feb.

Here's a link to the SCCF native plant nursery price list ~ great prices! SCCF is a great resource with many volunteers ready to assist residnets in native plants please also note that Sanibel City Hall is all native plants and they are all marked so you can walk around and see in person.

It is very important to use native plants for landscaping. These plants do very well in our climate and require very little to no watering!

Parrot 101 - Dusty Rose is again eating - in fact eating a lot. He spent
years on a pelleted diet to correct an overweight problem so I was surprised
when I arrived to find him underweight. He had had some sort of stroke or
seizure in August but under Dawn's care in the breedery, seemed fine at the
end of October.
The vet could find no sign of any remaining stroke symptoms.
Now he is in heaven as he gets to have all his favorite (fatty) foods. You
know if a bird is overweight when the breastbone - sternum - has flesh like
a bosom on either side & when a bird is underweight his sternum pokes out.

If you want any of our parrot DVDs as Christmas presents see Libby at 10 AM
or around 4 PM at the parrot area.

Christmas is right around the corner and the annual Friends Who Care with all the toys from Santa will be sorted and wrapped at the Sanibel Community Center. Many, many helpers are needed to make this wonderful giving of the community happen.
Save the dates: Tuesday, December 13, starting at 3PM is the sorting day.
Wednesday, December 14 is wrapping day, which starts at 9AM and goes until all of the gifts are wrapped. Lots of fun is had by all!!

ICE - 'In Case of Emergency'
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign the concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations.

As cell (mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' (In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.'

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!

SanCap Cracker Fest

Our Sanibel START chapter is hosting the Second Annual SanCap Cracker Fest on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 6:30 P.M. This event is a departure from traditional Sanibel functions. We are celebrating Sanibel’s rich and lively heritage with a wonderful Florida Cracker Dinner Fundraiser with Silent and Live Auctions. The evening will be elegantly casual, filled with down-home music by our local TROUBLESTARTERS. And we will serve a delicious dinner including smoked piney woods rooter and fried mullet with all the trimmings, finishing with mouth-watering desserts. And it wouldn’t be a party without select wine and beer on hand!

Our local Sanibel Captiva Chapter of START (Solutions to Avoid Red Tide, Inc.) is part of a statewide organization headquartered in Sarasota. You may visit the website at www.start1.com. START’s vision is to improve the quality of our marine waters through research, public education, and programs that restore marine habitats, preserve marine species, and promote healthy beaches and coastal waterways. This vision has never been more important.

When our START chapter determined to have a fundraiser last year, we resolved to keep the majority of the proceeds in Lee County and have succeeded in that mission. Our chapter president Dr. Bruce Neill (Executive Director, Sanibel Sea School) spearheaded collaborative efforts between START and Sanibel Sea School to create a tool to educate Lee County teachers and students about locally relevant coastal and marine issues. Called The Coastal Classroom, the computer module is a prototype designed specifically for 7^th graders. This project could not have been produced without the generous help of our 2009 sponsors, donors, and event participants. A presentation of the Coastal Classroom will be made at this year’s Cracker Fest.

Our objective for the coming year is to develop other outreach programs to be underwritten with the proceeds from SanCap Cracker Fest 2010.

A Bahama style feast was prepared on site 77 ~~ fresh conch salad, conch fritters & peas and rice. Also served... red snapper bites (eaten so fast I couldn't get a picture). Bahama punch was the beverage of choice.... YUMMY!!!
