a little kayak trip in tarpon bay
------------------------------------------------
Been a while since hitting the water, so I launched the kayak off dixie beach and headed over to tarpon bay. It wasn't going to be a long day of fishing, just a chance to get the lines wet again. After a few tosses of the cast net, I had enough bait to start paddling. Got there a little after 8am with a rising tide and the plan was to fish the mangroves. Unfortunately the wind was kicking a little and it was a little hard to hold the shoreline. Anyway, got a few catfish but nothing to write home about. But the great thing about going over to tarpon bay, you will surely see a few dolphins and a manatee or two. It's almost a guarantee.
One scary moment... I was at the mouth of the bay where the channel runs in and I noticed something large passing right off the front of the kayak. I was able to back paddle quickly so there was no incident but I figured I just avoided a pretty good sized shark, maybe a six footer. Yikes!!! And I'm sitting in a little kayak. Hmmmm.... maybe time for a bigger boat!!
Here's a few pics of the trip. Missed the fish today, but the scenery is always awesome!
